Travel Industry Team Leader

This exciting career opportunity has become available, working for an independent travel management company in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
The company specialise in sports travel, accessible travel and business travel ranging from small, ad hoc travel requests through to project managing large scale events and group travel.
They deal with sports teams from grass roots through to elite teams, from managing a university teams’ domestic travel to chartering aircraft for those elite sports teams, as well as working with SMEs and corporate clients for all of their business travel and event management needs.

The Role

  • As a Business Travel Team Leader, your role will involve managing and leading a team of travel consultants to ensure efficient and effective travel services for our clients. You will also be expected to lead by example and support the business by managing key client relationships including supporting the business by undertaking the responsibilities of a Senior Business Travel Consultant where needed.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to a team of business travel consultants.
  • Facilitate basic management approaches for work scheduling, prioritizing, and process execution.
  • Assist with onboarding new employees.
  • Take ownership of your team’s performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Handle certain VIP travel and general reservations when needed.
  • Ensure all emails and travel requests are acknowledged within the client’s service level agreement (SLA).
  • Ensure all air bookings are quality-checked (QC).
  • Address supplier queries and arrive at an acceptable resolution to all parties (client/supplier/Onside Travel).
  • Ability to coach, mentor and empower a team.
  • Excellent knowledge of travel booking systems and e-travel platforms (proficiency in GDS or equivalent such as Galileo/Saber/Amadeus is essential).
  • Strong knowledge of procedures, processes, and policies related to the travel industry.
  • Proficiency in English; additional language skills are advantageous.
  • Strong customer-oriented approach.
  • Knowledgeable in various travel and conferencing domains (domestic/international, business/leisure, group/individual, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, persuasion, and crisis management abilities.
  • Personal travel experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing client relationships.

About You

  • They are looking for an incredibly driven and motivated person to lead their small team and to grow their role as the business continues to evolve.
  • Must have a good amount of experience and proven track record working within the travel industry, including business travel.
  • Relevant education and training. Degree preferable but not essential.
  • A passion for travel and an enthusiasm for creating excellent travel experiences.
  • An understanding of the latest travel regulations and destination information.
  • The ability to work under pressure and solve problems efficiently.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. You must have an incredible eye for detail. Attention to all small details is essential in this role.
  • Prior experience as a Team Leader or Senior Business travel consultant is essential.
  • You must be proficient in GDS or equivalent (saber or Amadeus).
  • You must be a clear and open communicator and a creative thinker.
