The Role

  • Permanent position
  • Full time hours – 40 hours Monday to Friday – 10am to 4pm are core hours of business where you would need to be in the office
  • Location: Mirfield
  • Salary: £70,000 per annum + 12 % annual bonus
  • You must have worked in a COMAH based environment to be considered for this role
  • Promote best practice for the management of EH&S to achieve continuous improvement in performance and proactively lead UK EH&S activities.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all relevant EH&S regulations, including COMAH, DSEAR, PUWER, ALARP, COSHH, and others.
  • In conjunction with the Site Leadership team, ensure compliance with regulations and agency expectations. Lead and drive related activities.
  • Develop and improve robust safety management systems to ensure hazards are identified, risks are evaluated, and controls are implemented.
  • Support the engineering and new product development areas by developing robust systems to assess new projects and ensure safe operation.
  • Manage and report site EH&S metrics and ensure incident investigations are thorough with preventative actions implemented.
  • Promote a culture of open reporting of EH&S issues and employee engagement in continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the focal point for HSE and EA for the site.
  • Handle all EHS-related regulatory reporting and maintain dialogue with regulatory bodies regarding the COMAH intervention plan.
  • Act as the main contact for emergency services, local authorities, and planning departments.
  • Ensure EHS standards and procedures are applied through role assignment and training.
  • Provide coaching to those in EHS-related roles.
  • Work closely with managers to provide training and support operational and functional staff in driving EHS improvements.

About You

  • Educated to graduate level, preferably in a chemical/technical subject.
  • Hold an appropriate health and safety qualification (e.g., Diploma in Health and Safety Management, NEBOSH), meeting the HSE requirements of a ‘competent person.’
  • Must have current knowledge of EH&S legislation and regulations.
  • Experience in overseeing EH&S activities in a chemical industry/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working at a COMAH site and regular interaction with HSE and EA is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of process safety and the requirements to support the safe introduction of new processes is desirable.
  • Experience developing improved EHS culture through training and development of staff.
  • Knowledge of REACH regulations.
  • Demonstrated skills in the execution of improvement projects (project management) and change management.
  • Proactive, with the ability to operate on own initiative.
  • Strong influencing and engagement skills, with an understanding of successful change management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working abilities.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to maintain a hands-on approach.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
