The Role

  • Risk Assessments: Carrying out risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace and implementing measures to mitigate these risks.
  • Health and Safety Policies: Assisting in the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Training and Awareness: Organising and delivering training sessions to employees on health and safety practices, emergency procedures, and the proper use of safety equipment.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigating accidents, incidents, or near misses to determine root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Inspections and Audits: Conducting regular inspections and audits of the workplace to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Developing and maintaining emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
  • Safety Promotion: Promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance throughout the organisation through communication, signage, and awareness campaigns.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of health and safety activities, including incident reports, training records, and inspection findings.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with other departments, such as HR, Facilities, and Operations, to integrate health and safety considerations into their activities and projects.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety practices and procedures, and implementing necessary changes.

About You

  • Educational Background: A degree in Health and Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field. Candidates with additional qualifications or certifications in health and safety management (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate) would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation: Understanding of UK health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices, such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and Risk Assessment requirements.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and analyse data to develop effective health and safety strategies.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate health and safety policies, procedures, and training to employees at all levels of the organisation.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capacity to investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Organisational Skills: Capability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to integrate health and safety considerations into various organisational activities.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using computer software and applications for data analysis, record-keeping, and report generation.
