Commercial Manager

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a growing commercial and industrial roofing contractor based near Huddersfield.

This Commercial Manager role is ideal for a commercially driven professional with experience in quantity surveying, estimating or commercial management who is looking to take ownership of a growing commercial function. You will play a key role in supporting the business as it moves from labour-only contracting into supply-and-fit projects.

Working closely with the Managing Director, you will be responsible for pricing, cost control, contract management and protecting margins across live projects.

The Role

  • Manage the commercial function from tender stage through to project completion
  • Price tender enquiries and quotations, including labour, materials, plant and overheads
  • Prepare accurate cost build-ups, estimates and bills of quantities
  • Review drawings, specifications and project requirements to identify risks and opportunities
  • Monitor live projects against budgets, costs and profitability targets
  • Produce cost reports, forecasts and commercial updates
  • Manage applications for payment, variations, extensions of time and final accounts
  • Negotiate with clients, commercial teams and quantity surveyors
  • Act as the main commercial contact for tenders and live contracts
  • Manage subcontractor agreements, rates and supply chain relationships
  • Support the development of the business from labour-only to supply-and-fit contracting

About You

  • Proven experience within a Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyor or Estimator role
  • Experience within roofing, cladding, construction or specialist subcontracting environments is desirable
  • Strong understanding of labour-only and supply-and-fit pricing structures
  • Experience managing costs, margins, variations and commercial risk
  • Confident negotiating with clients, contractors and subcontractors
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts including NEC and JCT is advantageous
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organisation and analytical skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Able to work independently within a growing business environment
